Using a variety of criteria set by the user, the system looks for files which may no longer be active and offers the opportunity to either remove them completely or archive (move) them from their current location. Technically a hard disk is not required, but the system's value is in its ability to scan large amounts of data and automatically select data needing attention. The registration fee is $50. Features: Features: File/Archive uses pre-selected directories to be used for finding files which are candidates to be archived. For each specified directory, you supply information about what types of files or groups of files should be analyzed or excluded from analysis and information about what constitutes an active or inactive file. A master configuration record tells File/Archive how often to look at directory entries to see whether they should be analyzed. By including the proper command in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, the system can be made totally automatic. The only thing the system will not do automatically is actually archive files - it merely presents the files that meet the selection criteria in a menu and asks if you would like to archive or delete any of them. Any files that are selected are then moved to a designated archive location, usually a diskette. Information about the file, such as date, time, and size of the file, is then recorded in a catalog along with information such as when it was archived, where it was originally located, and where it is now located. This information can be reviewed or printed at any time, and, with two or three keystrokes, any archived file can be recalled to its original location. An archived file can also be recalled to any new location, or it can be copied to any location and left in the archive. The system allows you to customize several parameters such as a variety of default values it uses, specify whether to include system or hidden files in its analysis (although it won't allow you to archive such files as long as they have those attributes), specify whether or not to use DOS's write verify feature, assign your own function keys, etc. It also allows you to select any combination of colors. Finally, the program contains an anti-virus guard. Registered users receive a printed user manual and the latest version of the programs plus telephone support for problems. ____________________________________________________________ ______________________________
